We’re not even halfway into 2018, and we already have our first female, vegan, Baha’i, animal rights activist, immigrant, who assaulted YouTube HQ in the name of ‘free speech’ as part of her larger grievance against their demonetization campaign just after YouTube banned a whole swath of channels focused on firearms.
All this while ticking off both the “crazy” and “hot” boxes on her census form as well!
The many forms of Huehuecoyotl are just manifestations of the one true God, and Charles Fort is his prophet.
What we need, as a country, is an open & honest discussion on common-sense Persian control.
And HEY YUSEF!
Persian chicks, man. Smokin’ hot, and then a random chance every year after they hit, say, 35, to look like a Gypsy curse. Everything’s gravy, and then one morning you wake up next to Danny DeVito.
With Persian chicks, there’s also the chance that you don’t wake up at all because they stuck a knife in you while you slept.
I never knew baby chickens could be so ruthless.
Danny Devito? Fuck that! Ahnohld! The men are apt to flights of emotion, as we’ve been well versed by past experience.
Yusef declared his parting for the evening at 9:20pm on the earlier thread.

Way off topic, and I apologize to Mr. Mulatto.
I crunched some numbers with my wife today, (not a euphemism). The health insurance my company offers won’t cover my spouse unless she is unemployed or is already buying coverage from her employer. For the past several years, I have carries myself and my boy and she has bought insurance for herself. She is paying 100 bucks a week for herself for a pretty shitty policy. I pay 70 a week for me and the boy.
We went to her OBGYN a few days ago and got the expected bill for the duration of her pregnancy. It’s going to be 4500 out of pocket plus whatever the hospital charges for using their room and the anesthesiologist and whatever else may happen. Basically it’s more money than her job is worth. My wife quit her job today because it’s more expensive to work than to not.
I place full blame of this situation on our federal government. Specifically on the ACA for mandating that all employers offer health insurance, and generally on the feds as a whole thinking that they have a right to interfere in the health insurance market. Fuck those people
Perverse incentives are perverse.
no shit. This is pretty infuriating to me. Mostly because my wife likes her job. A second point of infuriation, is her co workers advice-
Why don’t you just get on medicare? That’s how we financed all our children. Medicare (or medicade, I’m not sure which) payed for our doctor bills. Our kids are on ARkidsfirst.
Well, the reason we can’t just go suck government teat to pay for our breeding is because we actually fucking work for what have.
You are a man of principal, Lachowsky, and to be commended for it.
Easy way to remember the difference between medicaid and Medicare. We care for our old people. We want our poor people to get AIDS.
As an option, someone mentioned in a previous thread that ‘cash talks’. Ive never been in the situation to apply it to childbirth, but when I see my non-VA doc, I stress that Im a ‘self-pay’. You wouldn’t believe how deeply costs for medical services can get discounted for (nearly) un-traceable cash.
Just my $0.02
I should try that. I don’t know how well it work with me being in a very rural market with few options, but there is a chance it would be worth it.
Give it a shot. A friend of mine was denied a CAT scan for a knee replacement(long, stupid story). After showing the provider the rejection letter, they charged him $160 instead of the quoted $600.
Related to childbirth costs, a buddy of mine who had to deal with hospital bills himself due to billing screw-ups told me that he talked to a surprisingly candid person in the hospital’s billing department. She said something to the effect of, “Frankly, we have so many bills go unpaid we’ll work with whatever you can afford. Make me an offer.” They’ll do payment plans, but if you can just drop a lump sum of cash they’ll take less. Hospitals and doctors inflate charges when they know a patient has insurance (whether they’re covered or not) because if the insurance covers it they have their own set limit to how much they’ll pay. So, they bill to that limit or more, take what they get, and write the rest off.
your comment is evidence of how fucked up health care financing is in this country.
That sucks, man. I’d ask if you’ve considered trying to negotiate some kind of payment plan or anything with the hospital but your wife’s insurance situation sounds like you’re better off just dumping the policy altogether and becoming a one-income household. Isn’t that some shit? Can’t afford to be a two-income family? Things you can say thanks to the Affordable Care Act.
FWIW, Mrs Gordilocks and I are using a midwife and having the kid at home. Unless there’s an emergency beyond the midwife’s ability to control, we’re not going anywhere near the hospital, nor the corporatist clusterfuck that is the US health insurance ‘industry’.
As much as I hate and despise the government, just like everyone else here, witnessing how totally fucking stupid the health care system in America is makes me wonder if single payer, for all of it’s flaws, is actually marginally better than what is going on now.
Don’t do it Gordi. Don’t fall for the single payer trap. As bad as it is right now, single payer would be worse.
Charlie Gard.
What we need is less government in medicine, not more.
One of my team coworkers (different state) just had his second kid in the tub at home. IIRC the first one was delivered that way accidentally due to scheduling delays, the second one was on purpose (with midwife) and worked out well enough (rural GA outside Benning). He’s a former Army medic – apparently the first time the ambulance guys tried to give him a bill for assisting with birth even though they showed up after the baby was “done” – sounded like he decided to avoid the hassle this time around.
As much as I hate and despise the government, just like everyone else here, witnessing how totally fucking stupid the health care system in America is makes me wonder if single payer, for all of it’s flaws, is actually marginally better than what is going on now.
This is by design. The ACA isn’t intended to make things better, it is intended to make them worse so people start screaming for what progs really want, single-payer.
Sorry, dude. So sick of all the health insurance BS. 🙁
But, on the happy side, I hadn’t yet heard about the pregnancy. So, Mazel Tov!
It has worked better this time. Thanks for your words of encouragement earlier this year. Have your old man pray to his (((god))) I get another boy.
I like having one of each. Daughters are kind of crazy, but I wouldn’t trade.
The daughter is great. Wouldn’t trade, either.
Lame as hell Lach. I have three boys and when I see my friends with girls I’m kinda envious as the level of rambunctiousness is at a whole different level.
We had two kids pre Obummercare and one post. Guess which one cost more than two times the others?
First, congratulations on your soon to be new child. Second, I’ll pray to (((my))) God your child health. Third, I’ve got two girls. I wouldn’t trade them for anything.
That sounds about right, maybe a touch high. We paid about $7k out of pocket. Of course, that was partially due to us being on 3 separate insurance plans during the pregnancy and partially due to the motherfucking marketplace plans that I literally couldn’t purchase in the correct state when we moved.

O/T:
So a link at Instapundit drags me back to TOS. Which, I guess, isn’t all that bad, because I found this gem:
What clown isn’t a redhead? It would break new ground!
Dammit, the only pics I found were just, “The exception that proves the rule”.
Good call.
This guy?
Great. Now how am I supposed to sleep tonight?
Are you anti-clown? If so, I wouldn’t have guessed that about you, for I-dunno-what-reason.

I’m rather glad you linked to him. I’d seen YT vid of him before, but only just now remembered it.
I really want to hear him cover Let’s Dance
That is seriously weird in isolation from the music mix.
I admit I also enjoy his “Losing My Religion”, even though I love the original REM too. A very different song, not a cover.
Um…
OK, I guess I coulda said them.
But, low-hanging fruit, and all.
SAD!
Tacos, what are those all about? The hard shell taco was invented by an american; the flour tortilla, beef and cheese came from the Spaniards.
I just want to applaud the choice of tune. Well done HM
i myself downloaded a few of her batshit vids and explored musical-accompaniment options. i gave up after about an hour. too stupid. this was perfect.
if i get drunk and the subject of “hall and oates” is ever raised, I launch into a proselytizing mode which frightens non-believers.
i am more agnostic about other aspects of related yacht rockery; I think Michael Mcdonald is Yahweh, but i feel Toto are a renegade sect which – while they might make decent points from time to time – is otherwise sort of silly and should be ignored.
And, not Christopher Cross?
Gah, i am embarrassed to admit that as I kid I found some of Christopher Cross’s movie songs to be touching.
In retrospect, what a gasbag. “BREATHE INTO THE MICROPHONE!”
Gasbag? That’s a bit harsh, innit?
I mean, it IS yacht rock. And, his voice is mellow enough.
I guess I am feeling a bit harsh after spending all day trying to figure out how to kill people and break things with our finest technologies. 🙂
“Ya, but they were all bad.”
Time to watch some kitten videos now.
Ah! Well, then-carry on.
Speaking of “kitten video”…
Cool!
A kitten video like this?
Perhaps an example of those “finest technologies”?
I’d tell ya, but then I’d have to kill ya.
Suffice it to say, now that I’ve moved from a stodgy publicly traded defense contractor to a privately owned one where my immediate team looks to SpaceX and Tesla as examples of how these advances need to be made, it’s gonna be a whole new ball game.
Ha! I actually meant that question as a response to Mike’s kitten video. My bad.
Although I am now very intrigued….
Oh, and ‘Spolisives, look to your north and wave. I’m waving from Ventura Beach. Tomorrow it’s back to the deep freeze. 🙁
Also, weird shit went down the very 1st day of my new employment (Monday). They put me in an office more posh than those of the people who were ostensibly my peers but whom I looked up to as superiors, and then on Tuesday the guy I thought (and so did he til Monday) was going to be my immediate manager told me that instead, I will be reporting to HIS manager as a Subject Matter Expert core team member.
When I asked my brilliant and awesome main trainer-inner and confidant (smartest man I ever met) who is the main reason I took this job what it all meant, he paused a few seconds looking at the ceiling and said “It’s good. It means when you have to do battle with the [upper management a-holes], you will be on equal footing.” (for his protection I leave out what he calls upper management)
I’ve never seen that guy more cheerful than today after I more or less relieved him of the planning / diplomacy stress and allowed him to continue running rampant with unbridled genius. The fact that my office is large enough to include an extra table and chairs for 6 means people drop in all the time for unscheduled brainstorming, and I rarely interfere except to interject my creative thoughts too and, when necessary, remind them of the tasks at hand.
This is going to be good. 🙂
*waving enthusiastically to Sir Digby and MikeS*
*Waves back and smiles*
I’m glad to hear that the big change is going so swimmingly.
Knowing there are jobs like that out there makes me fully regret most of my employment-related choices.
Thanks, Digs.
I can hardly believe it myself. It’s amazing how long we can put up with shit out of “politeness” and not realize how much we are missing out. But it took 2 fucking decades for me to get here. And now in less than a week I have vaulted from a fucking cubicle in a no-growth situation to a “As long as we can unleash crazy amounts of energy to do something spectacularly good, let’s try it!!” kind of deal in a really nice office with palm trees is crazy fun.
It’s like when artists scoff at articles describing them as “Overnight sensations!” when they finally make it big, even though they’ve been struggling for 10-20 yrs up to that point with no indicator of positive feedback.
I really hope it continues like this. And, just to piss off the gender equivalency idiots, i have to add that I think part of why this is working is because I am female and perceived as a soothing influence, not a competitor.
Also, for the people who remember the early days when one company member got drunk and waaaay over the line, I just want to let you know that it’s his office that I inherited. 🙂
“Good riddance” said my new coworkers.
Excellent point, and one that I wasn’t even thinking of.
Oh, and, drinks on you. (ha!)
“Only took me 2 decades”…
Reminds me of Craig Ferguson’s advice:
It was just a line in a standup routine, but it changed my life for the better. I love Ferguson.
His best special to date.

Goddammit. You got snookered my Buxom Queen. You were brought in to do his dirty work and it’s win/win for him because if you do his bidding he’ll be a brilliant recruiter and if it doesn’t then he looks heavenwards and says, “It just wasn’t in the cards, this time.”
Christopher Cross is on the level of “apostle”
Like steely dan, anyone that Michael McDonald provides backing vocals for is blessed.
But to be truly among the anointed, one must have toured with the 80s Rock & Soul review
Along the lines of what Mike says below…
What he can add to the mix = sure
By himself = not so much
your words are the words that fools believe
Well, I do try hard to re-create what has yet to be created.
Fools with ears.
“fools with ears”
You continue to run from the obvious truth
**for non musician types: the joke about MMD is that he’s the blackest white man there has ever been
*(daryl hall comes close w/ his sheer vocal talent, but MMD still has more soul)
when people say they love MMD its really just, “i love soul music, and he’s sort of the champion of what
White People Love of Soul Music Means.
Didn’t
MichaelMike Bolton wrestle him for that title?True story: michael boltons mullet was a blessing which came from stroking Michael McDonald’s beard as a child.
I always thought this guy had more soul that any other white guy.
And I know the sample size is small, but this guy has some soul in him. I hope he keeps it up.
“”this guy had more soul that any other white guy.””
I understand where you’re coming from, but i sincerely doubt cocker himself would allow that sort of claim.
his sort of “passionate yelling” doesn’t even remotely compare to the stuff that MMD was competing with – which was the Jackie wilsons, Sam cookes, percy sledges, marvin gaye, etc of the world.
on the technical, “basic capability” level, cocker isn’t even in their category.
i really dont’ want to debate anything. i’m just a soul music fan. and MMD is my guru
Passionate yelling
(Sam Cooke is the GOAT)
I enjoy Hall’s project where he brings other musicians into his pad to chat and jam and have fun.
Don’t you produce music? It don’t surprise that you proselytize.
I have never sampled “rich girl”,
but when i was a club DJ i used to play “i can’t go for that” (mixed into De La *say no go*) very very frequently.
and it always produced exactly the same universal “yes this is good” response from people. The nice thing about DJing is that you quickly learn what kinds of music work best under various circumstances.
One of the things about Hall & oates? is that their shit actually bangs in many many circumstances. its that weird “where the 70s soul became the 80s” thing, where the groove got more mechanical, and the vocals got more precise, but they kept so much philly-soul esque flavor.
I can definitely see that. H&O has some of the greatest cross-generational appeal of any artist, in my experience. Kind of like Michael Jackson or the Jackson 5. Play it at a party comprising any demographics combo, and there’s a very good chance it’ll be a hit.
Something about Michael McDonald’s voice is very annoying to me. I can’t describe it exactly…it’s sort of nasally…
Like Mark Hollis of Talk Talk.
I like it but it does sound a little Muppety
I’m cheering for Nasime to win this season of “RuPaul’s Drag Race.”
I wonder what John Waters thinks of her.

That sounds like something they’d make up for South Park! LOLZ.
Sonic wallpaper is the term my husband uses for that kind of “I can almost notice it” crap. Tee hee.

Every picture or video of this woman has been the same. A female Asperger. Sorry if this has been mentioned before but maybe she went off because her Mom kept saying “Smile! The boys will like you more!” Some rando on the street says the same thing and all hell breaks loose.
So when I first read this story wherever, first thing I thought was ‘I bet HM has all of her videos in his private collection’.

The military must train to be ready for war. Planes need to fly, tanks need to drive, ships need to sail, and guns need to shoot. And all the guys who make that stuff work need the chance to practice. More extensive use of simulators could help with that. That would save on ammo and maintenance costs and reduce accidents.
http://www.foxnews.com/us/2018/04/05/pilot-dies-in-f-16-crash-at-nellis-air-force-base-outside-las-vegas.html
Nope. You need hands on experience to learn tasks. When your cardiac surgeon is a pimply 15 year-old and assures you that he’s done this “millions of times!” online, wouldn’t that give one pause? There is a shit-load of wasted resources but you have to practice if you want to stay good. In a prior article’s thread people were talking about how their cars were dying if they didn’t get moved about from time to time. They need the hardware and practice just less of the former by a factor of ten and more of the latter.
I think maybe a split of 80% simulated and 20% actual might be the sweet spot.
It works for spec ops guys. They’ll practice a raid a bunch of times on a mock up before going to do it for real.
Same deal with astronauts. They’ll practice every part of the mission minus the launch a bunch of times until they have it down pat.
Yeah, I wouldn’t know but it seems to me that forklift operators have to learn on the job. Same as truckers or basically anyone running heavy equipment. I think the military just likes to swing its own dick around too much and it pisses people off and is quite frankly, wasteful.
But but but air shows!
***
Air show? Buzz cut Alabamians spewing colored smoke from their whiz jets to the strains of “Rock You Like a Hurricane”? What kind of country-fried rube is still impressed by that?!
***
Me.
We have yet to figure out how do accurately do high g’s in simulators. Flying vertical or inverted either. So while you could do procedural training in simulators, fighter pilots at least need to fly to simulate that.
And I think if you ask the spec ops guys, they will say doing the mission for real is far different than training as well. They work to train their reflexes and work out the kinks in the mission. But it isn’t reality.
For the record I have worked on gathering data for aircraft simulators. For the highest quality simulators you can trace the data to an actual aircraft tail number. And the data isn’t just the instruments and what you see outside the cockpit. It is how the aircraft moves, feels, and sounds as well.
Simulators and training are very useful tools. But don’t forget they rarely get everything right.
The Pentagon Plans for a Perpetual Three-Front ‘Long War’ Against China and Russia

While the long war against terror did fuel a vast, ongoing expansion of the Pentagon’s Special Operations Forces — now a secretive army of 70,000 nestled inside the larger military establishment — it provided surprisingly little purpose or real work for the military’s “heavy metal” units. The Army’s tank brigades, the Navy’s carrier battle groups, the Air Force’s bomber squadrons and so forth.
Yes, the Air Force in particular has played a major supporting role in recent operations in Iraq and Syria, but the regular military has largely been sidelined there and elsewhere by lightly equipped SOF forces and drones. Planning for a “real war” against a “peer competitor” — one with forces and weaponry resembling our own — was until recently given far lower priority than the country’s never-ending conflicts across the Greater Middle East and Africa. This alarmed and even angered those in the regular military whose moment, it seems, has now finally arrived.
“Today, we are emerging from a period of strategic atrophy, aware that our competitive military advantage has been eroding,” the Pentagon’s new National Defense Strategy declares. “We are facing increased global disorder, characterized by decline in the long-standing rules-based international order” — a decline officially attributed for the first time not to Al Qaeda and ISIS, but to the aggressive behavior of China and Russia. Iran and North Korea are also identified as major threats, but of a distinctly secondary nature compared to the menace posed by the two great-power competitors.

Eh, it makes sense to do *some* prep for conventional wars.
“Tank Brigades”. Yep, ole Putie is gonna come storming over the Fulda gap and encircle our forces in Washington D.C. What then, smart guy?

Russia’s new Armata tank breaks down in rehearsal for debut parade
The announcer told the audience in Red Square that the abrupt stop was planned

The rest of the parade continued while the tank sat motionless. An attempt to tow the vehicle away failed, before the T-14 eventually restarted and moved off around 15 minutes later.
While the fault appeared to be genuine, the announcer of the parade said it was a ‘planned’ event.
“We wanted to show how an evacuation of a tank would take place. It was planned that the tank would stop,” he told the crowd in Red Square.

Scary Fact: America Dropped 26,171 Bombs in 7 Countries in 2016

Most (24,287) were dropped in Iraq and Syria. This number is based on the percentage of total coalition airstrikes carried out in 2016 by the United States in Operation Inherent Resolve (OIR), the counter-Islamic State campaign. The Pentagon publishes a running count of bombs dropped by the United States and its partners, and we found data for 2016 using OIR public strike releases and this handy tool.* Using this data, we found that in 2016, the United States conducted about 79 percent (5,904) of the coalition airstrikes in Iraq and Syria, which together total 7,473. Of the total 30,743 bombs that the coalition dropped, then, the United States dropped 24,287 (79 percent of 30,743).
